CUSCO. Showed up today, new in packaging. Pretty cool!
I also picked up my tires tonight- Yokoham S Drives in 225/40/18 R and 215/40/17 F. If only the wheels were here to put them on!

This car is looking so good. I really hope I get to see it at the Import Alliance Summer Meet. Nice work, Alex!

I didn’t make a ton of progress, but I got the chassis/suspension and interior assembly just about done.

My assistant. Not much help...

Chassis Mockup

Exhaust/Brakes/Suspension installed

The front wheels actually turn- pretty cool!

Interior assembled, aside from the dash.

I am hoping to work on it some more this weekend- assemble and add the dash, install the interior onto the chassis, and work on getting the engine bay painted and assembled. I need to buy some paint for the exterior, so hopefully I will have time to make it to the hobby shop or something.

Of the 1/24 variety, lol. My in-laws got me this Tamiya R35 GTR Model for Christmas- it’s pretty cool. It has been really snowy lately and I don’t have much motivation to work on my car, so this had been a fun hobby for me to pursue. I used to build 1/24 scale models a lot with my dad when I was a kid, so it brings back fun memories.
Here are some photos after Day 1- and when I say day, I mean about 2 hours on Tuesday night, haha.
So here is the box, with my TYPE X model I just finished in the background. I have some TEs on the way for that and want to try wet sanding the paint a bit. It was a good first practice model- hoping to do another cooler one when I get better.

Dash stuff painted, decals added...

Pretty detailed!

So that’s about where it sits for now. I should have a chance to work on it some more tonight.
As for the real car, I got word that my cage should be here by the end of January. I am going to start pulling the rest of the interior apart to have room to work with when it arrives. Getting pretty pumped for it! Thanks for reading…

RIP C’s Garage 180SX

This car was a huge inspiration to my build. It was honestly one of the main things that kept me motivated through the winter last year when my car was coming together and in a million pieces. I’d love to rock a C’s Garage sticker in memory of this BEAST.
Perfection.
So I think I am finally starting to get back into the swing of things after having some nice time off for the holidays. I hope everyone had a great holiday!
I finally got motivated enough to work on the car the other night. I worked on getting my Tomei shifter installed, but ran into a snag with it. It seems like the input portion is about a half inch longer than my B&M, so it doesn’t want to sit flush with the transmission housing. Not sure what the scoop is- it sounds like it is the correct shifter for a 240, but I haven’t managed to make it work yet. I’m going to keep messing with it and hopefully I can get it to work!

I also got my Energy Suspension front and rear sway bar bushings from EnergySuspensionParts.com the other day, so I started to install those. I have had a couple of great experiences with them now- always in stock and fast shipping! The stock bushings are super tired, so I am glad they are being replaced. Basically the only thing stock left in my rear end as far as bushings/arms go, aside from the sway bar itself.

I got some pretty awesome Christmas gifts, including a rolling tool box from my wife, but this was for sure one of the cooler gifts I got. Kyle over at Excellent Barfs sent me this baller Rays/Volk umbrella. Can’t wait for it to rain! Thanks again, man.

So that’s about it for now. I am installing my D-Max coilovers as well- I’ve got the rear of the car just about back together. It has been four weeks since I ordered the Cusco cage today, so that officially puts me in the 4-8 week window for that to arrive. Still crossing my fingers that it shows up in the somewhat near future!
My CR Kais are still for sale as well. I am willing to sell them with the tires if that helps sway anyone’s decision. Let me know if you are interested! Camryonsteelies (at) gmail (dot) com!

Yep, I am picking up some new wheels again for next year. I sort of have this “get new wheels every spring” thing going on for my car. I really like my CR Kais a lot, but I am excited about the new stuff. I just ordered them today, so it should be the standard three months or so before I get them.
In the mean time, if you are looking for some custom silver Work CR Kai 17×9 +17, 18×9.5 5×114.3 hit me up! I would love to see them go on a cool TYPE X or something.

Hoping for $1450 shipped OBO. Will throw in Work lugs if you buy at asking price.

Yeah, I stole Teddy’s theme. Now I can actually have photos on here that aren’t all compressed horizontally and tiny- so that will be nice!
We got about 6″ of snow here over the weekend, with drifts over 1 ft. high depending on where you look. I learned that shoveling the driveway is not a lot of fun- especially when it is wet, heavy snow. A snow blower is for sure on the wish list after that experience.
I’m really geeked about getting some work done on the car, but I suppose there isn’t a rush at all. It has been about 15 degrees out or so ever since the storm came through, with wind chills well below zero, so something about laying out in the garage just doesn’t sound all that fun. The D-Max coilovers should be here soon, though, so I am pumped about that! I’m hoping to finish putting the Tomei shifter together tomorrow and get that in the car later this week- maybe on Thursday night.
I’m thinking about either getting some different wheels this winter, or getting mine professionally powder coated. The less-than-perfect paint on them has really been bugging me. I still really like the wheels and how they fit, though. I think the only thing I would ditch them for is a set of TEs, but I’m not wild about the cost. If I do get the wheels powder coated, it will be a bright silver color similar to how they are now- if not brighter.
That’s about it for now. I’m going to start pulling the front suspension for the makeover and the rest of the interior stuff to make way for the cage soon. I also decided to put my 180SX cluster in, so that will go down soon as well. I’ll post some pics as soon as goodies show up!
Happy Holidays! 🙂
I placed my order and sent payment this morning for a six point, bolt-in, dash escape Cusco roll cage from ACV mailorder out of Ohio! Special thanks to Aaron for helping me out with all of my questions and giving me a great price match! And thanks to my family for the birthday money- it’s obviously being put to good use! lol. It is being made in Japan and should arrive in 4-8 weeks. Now the long wait begins!
Nate Hassler of Modified Magazine was kind enough to send me high-res versions of the photos from my Modified feature earlier this week. I was super impressed with the work he did- thanks for the amazing photos, Nate!

Here is a link to my Flikr page with the photos.
I’d also like to thank Peter from Modified for hunting me down and featuring my car on the cover of Modified! This is honestly a dream come true for me, and something that I never imagined would actually happen to me. Very, very cool. I’ll be ordering some more copies of the issue from those guys, so if anyone out there overseas or something happens to read my blog (which I doubt, LOL) and can’t get a hold of a copy, but would like one, let me know!
The snow has started here, with more on the way this weekend. We haven’t gotten much, but this marks the end of the season for my car. I gassed it up and pulled it into the garage a couple of nights ago until the weather breaks in April. I’ll keep this updated this winter as my project continues! Thanks for reading!
